Police Chief Message

I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to be your Chief of Police and lead this outstanding group of men and women who tirelessly and selflessly serve this community.  As your Chief of Police, I pledge to stay actively involved in the community, lead the department with honor, integrity, and transparency.  The City of Tehachapi is a wonderful place to work, play and raise a family.  Working together we can keep the City of Tehachapi the safest city in Kern County.    

Chief Standridge’s Bio

Richard Standridge joined the Tehachapi Police Department as Chief of Police on June 26, 2023. Chief Standridge brings over 25 years of law enforcement experience to Tehachapi having most recently served as Chief of Police in Bishop, CA. from 2021-2023.

Prior to Bishop, Chief Standridge spent over 23 years with the Porterville Police Department promoting from the officer ranks to sergeant and lieutenant during his tenure. He was initially hired as a deputy in the Tulare County Sheriff's Department in 1998.

Chief Standridge is a United States Navy Veteran and holds a Bachelor Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, a Master’s Degree in Justice Management from the University of Nevada Reno and a certificate in Law Enforcement Command from the University of San Diego.  Chief Standridge is also a graduate of P.O.S.T. Command College, Class 66.
