Safe Route To Schools Grant Awarded for Snyder Project

On January 30, 2019 the City of Tehachapi was awarded a $1,495,000 grant from the Active Transportation Program (ATP) through Caltrans for the improved safety of children walking to school.

The project will include new curbs, sidewalks, gutters, and bike paths along Snyder Avenue between Valley Blvd. and Tehachapi Blvd. in the City of Tehachapi near Jacobsen Middle School.

ATP received more than 550 grant applications statewide, the City of Tehachapi’s application ranked 12th and received an overall score of 94. Approximately 10% of the 550 submissions received a grant from ATP.

The project will be 100% grant funded and will begin the design phase later in 2019, construction is expected to begin in 2020 and will be completed in 2021.
