On March 1, the County of Kern Grand Jury released its report following an annual review on the operation and management of the City of Tehachapi.
“We were pleased at the findings of the grand jury, city staff takes pride in working hard for its citizens. We are proud we have a balanced budget and strive for excellence when managing the tax-payers money,” said Greg Garrett City of Tehachapi City Manager.
The grand jury report reflected the hard work put in on the transition to district based elections, reducing retail leakage, utilizing grants to create new infrastructure projects throughout the city limits as well as balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility.
The report noted an increase of 65 part one crimes for the entire year. Many of which can be attributed to the legislative changes of Prop 47 and Prop 57 which ultimately reduced incarceration for certain criminal offenders.
The Tehachapi Police Department is addressing the slight rise in crime with new community oriented policing strategies that will launch in the spring of 2019.
“It was a glowing report by the grand jury, and we are proud to be the safest city in Kern County,” said Garrett.
The entire grand jury report is posted on the County of Kern website, City of Tehachapi website and at Tehachapi City Hall.
