On January 14, 2020, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) notified Tehachapi City Engineer Jay Schlosser he was the recipient of the Civil Engineer of the Year in the Public Sector Award winner for the State of California.
“I was surprised but not shocked Jay won the award, he has such high standards for himself and is an outstanding leader for his team here at the City of Tehachapi,” said Greg Garrett City Manager.
Schlosser won the San Joaquin Valley area Engineer of the Year award on July 1, 2019 from ASCE. He advanced to the Southern California section category and received Engineer of the Year on September 3, 2019. The winner from each section throughout California advanced into the state level award round, which announced on January 14, 2020 with Schlosser capturing his third Engineer of the Year Award from ASCE.
Jay is now one of 10 finalists in the United States being considered for the National Engineer of the Year Award, which will be announced in the coming months.
ASCE is an international organization comprised of engineers globally committed to excellence in engineering. As City Engineer, Schlosser has been instrumental in the transformation of the City of Tehachapi downtown over the decade and has overseen the design and construction of numerous water system, wastewater system, transportation, and beautification projects within the City.
