Michael Davies was selected by his peers on December 19, 2022 to serve a two-year term as Mayor of the City of Tehachapi. Councilmember Joan Pogon-Cord was also unanimously elected as Mayor Pro-Tem during the proceedings.

Davies has served on the Tehachapi City Council since 2018 and was elected to his first full term in November of 2020. He has served as Mayor Pro-Tem since that time. 

Joan Pogon-Cord has also been serving on the Tehachapi since 2018 and ran unopposed in 2022. Following her swearing in to her second term she was selected for this leadership position by her peers, nominated by outgoing Mayor Phil Smith. Smith recently concluded his fifth term as Mayor having first served in the position in 1990. He has served on the City Council since his first election in 1986. 

Davies becomes the 29th-different Mayor since the City of Tehachapi was incorporated in 1909. The Mayor is not elected separately but selected by from among the Council Members to serve non-consecutive two-year terms. 

Councilmembers Phil Smith and Susan Wiggins were also sworn in along with Pogon-Cord as they too were unopposed in the most recent election and are now embarking on new four-year terms set to expire in 2026.
